It's been years since I zoned and was not good at it when I did. Went today with Gormal and found it a lot of fun - even if I didn't have a good "vision" of what was happening. So asking for advice, is there a detailed guide anywhere, or is it learn as you go?
When a group is zoning - how do you manage to see the field of action? Who needs a rescue, Who is on the wrong mob, etc? My vision was very narrow.
What is the assist order, etc? I learned that some roles won't assist and will have starting targets. For example today there were "melee" mobs and "caster" mobs. Playing melee I was told to kill the melee mobs with Arizan. There were more mobs than melee players so instead of assisting Arizan, I opted to kill 2.mob then 4.mob so that they would be an off bash on mobs that Arizan wasn't hitting or Rargas tanking. Not sure this is right - as focusing down the mobs seems like a good strategy also.
How do you even see messages from the leader for switches, rescues or calls to get the hell out? The spells messages are as fast as the hits in chat.
Anyway, may be hooked and need to learn.
Zoning Guides?

Check out Lilithelle's website above for guides to many zones. The site also has many useful information.
As for the game play and "vision", it really depends on which MUD client you are using (Mudlet, Zmud, etc) and making the most out of the client.

Re: Zoning Guides?
Just to riff off the above a bit. It can be exceptionally helpful to use the various condensed modes and brief toggle to reduce the total output into something a bit more manageable to be able to see what is actually going on in a spam of combat. Other than that as commented leveraging your client to see the group status and who is on what tanks, casters etc can be very helpful.
I know a ton of people use mudlet for their client now-a-days along with the NyyScript which has a ton of helpful views and can give a really good status window on spell timers on folks and various group roles.
I know the new "focus" was released, notes here: http://www.torilmud.com/news/patch-note ... focus-v1-1
I haven't really used it much yet so can't comment on it specifically.

Re: Zoning Guides?
I think there's a lot to be said for foreknowledge of a zone, the npcs in each encounter, safe rooms, etc. I think that this question might be better placed under the umbrella of combat mechanics rather than zone-specific information and maps.
To that end...stayed tuned.
