tank gearing

Post by Hesiod »

Does anyone have suggestions for quests to do for tank gear? specifically usable by paladins.

I gear the same for pretty much all fighter classes, but if you're trying to be tanky, focus on physical resists and maxagility. Here's what I wear on my paladin:

Gormal's set is end-game stuff.. epic quests and items from Tiamat/Bahamut.

If you're looking for a quest to get some tank gear, then I recommend:

"a mantle of swirling shadows"

(About) AC:20 Hp:50 Svpet:-4 Blud:5% Fire:-5% Pier:5% Rang:5% Slas:5% Unarm:5% * Wt:0 Val:666p * Zone: SP (Q)

Really good physical resists and HP. The mantle can even be worn by casters!

Most of the quest items I believe can be either solo'ed or done with a small group.
The last few items can be easily won when doing group zones.

Good thing is that there aren't any super crazy rare items required.

Yeah, going for my actual items isn't probably realistic but the stats I go for are. Westgate has some nice maxagi pieces, like making a spiked mithril loop or getting the bracer off lamia fight.

Something I personally do is just browse the EQ database by stat/slot: http://www.grokh.com/torileq/index.php

thanks guys, good tips.

I had started working on the mantle of swirling shadows, I saw Miranol or someone wearing it, but I happened to get the isha cloak so it became a lower priority. I'll look at westgate items and do some searching.

For tank, try to achieve Agi Bonus of -32. Best tank races in my experience are Drow, Troll, Elf, and Barbarian. When rolling, don't accept AGI less than 100. In fact, with a good roller you should be able to get 100/100/100/100 on the top line. Otherwise, you'll have EQ issues later.

throw up your current tank set?

If you're not using bahamut blade already, it might be worth it to quest holy avenger to start. pretty easy, and I probably have a couple of the orbs around already to help

<worn as a badge> << the screaming hawk insignia of Keprum's army >>
<worn on head> the mystical circlet of the coiled serpent
<worn on eyes> a rune etched dragonscale of incarnadine hue

<worn on body> a blued steel breastplate
<worn about body> a mantle of swirling shadows
<worn as quiver> a dragonhide ammo belt
<worn about waist> a supple leather girdle with golden studs
<worn on arms> a set of spiked Minauran brass vambraces
<worn around wrist> a mercurial bracer of floating black silver

<worn on hands> a pair of gauntlets wreathed in electricity (glowing)
<worn on finger> a fighter's loop of sorcerous ability

<wielding twohanded> a crimson-edged obsidian blade
<worn on legs> the war greaves of conquest
<worn on feet> the paws of the cheetah

This gives AGI -31 which is decent enough on my Drow Blackguard, also gets the Max con bonus.

Is there any evidence that stacking maxAgi does anything beyond just providing extra AC notches, which would be pointless once you hit -100 AC?

I've heard it said you'll take less damage from crits but that's just anecdotal and I'm not sure where that originated.

Is there statistical data from days and days of fighting mobs with "just" -100 AC vs. fighting the identical mobs with e.g. -131 AC, and averaging the damage you take per hit or crit? (yeah, I am short on time, I would like to but have not).

I wonder if we're all stacking maxAgi because everyone else is doing it.

Go tank CM war parties solo or something with lots of decently hard mobs. Wear 131 then try with less. You'll see the difference.
